We created this course for leaders who...

Love God, but feel like you need a better understanding of the Bible.

Know Bible stories, but not sure why they're important or how they fit together.

Want to feel more confident reading and talking about Scripture with the people you lead.

Understand the Story of God's People

The Old Testament can be intimidating. It’s long, there are hundreds of names and places, and sometimes it can be difficult to understand where you are in the story or why what you’re reading matters.

Over seven weeks, we’re going to make it simpler.

We’ll walk through the Old Testament from beginning to end and build a framework that helps you understand who’s who, what happened when, where the different books fit, and how the whole story connects.

See the Big Picture

Understand the basic timeline of the Old Testament and where its major people, books, and events fit.

Connect the Stories

See how Abraham, Moses, David, the prophets, the exile, and the other major stories connect to one another.

Understand the Context

Learn enough history, geography, and culture to understand what’s happening when you open the Old Testament.

Know Why It Matters

Discover how the major stories of the Bible define our faith and help us understand God.

Explain It to Someone Else

Walk away with simple language that help you answer questions and teach what you’ve learned.

Why your team will benefit...

A safe place for leaders to learn

Many people leading in churches today have a desire to know more. That can leave you feeling a little insecure when someone asks a question you feel like you should know how to answer.

We’ll help you understand the major people, places, events, and themes of the Old Testament, why they’re important, and teach them in a way that helps you explain them to someone else.

We want to feel confident enough to help the people you lead.

Built For ministry

Our curriculum was developed from more than 20 years of pastoral ministry, so everything is taught with real church leadership in mind.

The goal isn’t to go deep just for the sake of going deep. The goal is to know God and His Word better so we can lead people better.

Whether you’re a pastor who preaches, a small group leader who leads discussions, or a staff member who just wants to be able to answer questions confidently, we’ll focus on the parts of the Bible that help you understand Scripture and use it in real ministry.

Bring Your Team

Give your staff a stronger biblical foundation.

It’s easy to assume your staff and leaders know what you know about the Bible. But they probably don’t. Depending on their age, sermons and podcasts may be the only Bible knowledge they have.

The Old Testament Foundations was built for church staff and leaders who want to better understand Scripture and feel more confident explaining it to the people they lead.

If you have several people on your team who would benefit, we’ve made it easy to go through the course together.

Group Pricing

Register 5 staff members at the regular rate, then add additional team members for just $99 each.

Got Questions?

Common Questions

Do I have to be a pastor to take the course?

Not at all. The course was created with church staff and ministry leaders in mind, but any Christian can benefit.

We especially recommend our Foundations courses for anyone who helps lead others in the local church—including staff members, elders, deacons, small group leaders, ministry volunteers, and yes, senior pastors too.

Is there a New Testament Course?

Yes. We rotate courses each semester, with New Testament Foundations following each Old Testament Foundations course.

We recommend taking both courses to build a strong understanding of the entire Bible and how the Old and New Testaments fit together.

What denomination or theological background do you have?

Through the Bible isn’t connected to a specific denomination. Our teaching comes from a historic, orthodox Christian understanding of Scripture and focuses on the core beliefs Christians have held across generations and denominations.

Christians can disagree on secondary theological issues, and you may not agree with every way we interpret Scripture. That’s okay. Our Foundations courses focus primarily on the major themes and truths Christians have widely agreed upon throughout church history.

Is the course live or prerecorded?

The course is taught live on Zoom.

Can my church register several staff members?

Absolutely. We actually encourage churches to send teams. If you register five people at the regular rate, every additional person from your church is only $99.

Does my church have to register me or can I register myself?

Either one! You can register and pay for the course yourself, or your church can register and pay on your behalf.

If your church wants to send five or more people, we also offer discounted group pricing.

Is your theology LGBTQ+ affirming?

No. Through the Bible teaches from a historic, orthodox Christian understanding of Scripture, including the traditional Christian understanding of marriage and sexuality.

We recognize that Christians and churches have different convictions on these issues, and we want to treat everyone with dignity and respect. While sexuality is not a major focus of our Foundations courses, our Genesis curriculum does address identity, gender, marriage, and sexuality from a traditional Christian interpretation of Scripture.
